Important notes on programming the MCS2000 series and related radios listed above:
Due to the way the Motorola SB9600 programming bus was implemented in these radios, certain configurations/revisions may exhibit programming difficulties when using the front mic jack. The following are known Motorola issues with both 100% on-spec Motorola programming equipment and third party equipment (assuming correct programming setup):
1. Radio attempts to enter programming mode, but display goes blank or displays an error code instead of "PRGM". Probable cause: Some radios, usually remote-head versions, cannot be programmed reliably through the front mic jack. Solution: Configure the radio with an attached head for programming, or program radio using the 25-pin accessory port (this is the correct cable for programming via the accessory connector).
2. Radio does not enter programming mode (radio does not react at all to read/write attempts). Probable cause: Sense transistor in radio head is damaged, usually by accidentally shorting the mic connector to ground or attempting to use an incorrect mic/accessory. Solution: Replace transistor Q0662 (radio head) or program radio using the 25-pin accessory port (this is the correct cable for programming via the accessory connector).

Note: Our SKU 33911 (8-pin mic-jack) programming cable will work with all radios/configurations except as noted above and is usually recommended. It can be exchanged for one of these 33960 cables if required.
